SPICY WORS
& BEAN STEW

This Spicy Boerewors & Bean Stew brings together rich South African flavours with just the right kick of spice.
It’s budget-friendly, filling, and perfect for sharing around the family table.

INGREDIENTS:

Makes 5 servings:

500g DC Meat Spicy Nyama Braaiwors, cut into chunks

1 can (410g) baked beans

1 can (410g) braai relish

1 tsp Kingsman Spicy Nyama spice

1 tbsp oil

1 large onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp chilli flakes (optional)

1 tsp brown sugar

Salt & pepper to taste

Fresh parsley or coriander, for garnish

METHOD:

Brown the boerewors:
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the boerewors chunks and brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
Alternatively you could braai the wors lightly, until gently seared.

Sauté the aromatics:
In the same pot, add the chopped onions and cook until soft and golden (about 5–6 minutes). Stir in garlic, smoked paprika, curry powder, and chilli flakes. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

Build the sauce:
Add the chopped tomatoes, baked beans, brown sugar, and a splash of water. Stir well and simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavours to blend.

Combine & simmer:
Return the boerewors to the pot and let it simmer gently for 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and the boerewors is cooked through.

Season & serve:
Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve warm.

Optional:

Serve with pap, mashed potato, or crusty bread for a wholesome meal.
